We
sailed back to Rodney Bay on Thursday to get the boat cleaned up and
prepared for Gene's Mom and cousin who were coming to visit us, and
we were thrilled to find out that our friends on Virginia Dare (Bob &
Christine) and Anything Goes (Craig, Wendy, and their girls) were
also anchored/docked in the Rodney Bay area. We made plans to do an
early morning hike to the highest point on Pigeon Island and watch
the sunrise. Waking up at 4:30 am, we met up with Bob, Christine,
Craig and Wendy and headed over to the dinghy dock on Pigeon Island
in the dark. Pigeon Island is a National Landmark with remains of
barracks, batteries, and garrisions from the 1700s when the island
was used as a military base to monitor the French fleet on
Martinique. The park doesn't actually open until 9 am, so we figured
we'd sneak in via the dinghy dock at Jambe De Bois, the sole
restaurant on Pigeon Island. We managed to find our way to the trail
leading to the highest point with minimal use of our headlamps. We
made it to the top of the hill within 20 minutes (a very short hike),
and relaxed on the boulders as we watched the sun come up.

After
the sun had risen, we headed back down to the dinghys and met up at
Virginia Dare for a great breakfast.
