Drive through Arthur's Pass, New Zealand

November 4

We left Franz Josef and started our 6-hour drive back to Christchurch where we would end our trip in New Zealand.  The return drive goes through Arthur's pass which was a major location for the filming of Lord of the Rings.  More spectacular scenery...

This really amazing covered bridge was built off the side of the mountain.

We came across this Kea during one of our picture stops.  Like most birds in New Zealand, Keas aren't great fliers, so they don't move very quickly.

Gene feeding the Kea some cereal... I think this may happen a lot here.

More beautiful shots from our drive back to Christchurch.

This probably looks familiar if you've seen Lord of the Rings.
