Bike Ride to Cas-En-Bas and Pigeon Island, St. Lucia

Thursday, March 7

We took the boat to Rodney Bay marina on Monday and decided to stay in the marina for 4 nights to get the boat cleaned, hulls waxed, and do some of our outstanding boat projects.  We spent the first few days working through our list, fixing the propane tank hose, patching the dingy, cleaning the boat inside and out, and doing laundry.  Being in the marina was great!  We hadn't been in a marina since Antigua, so it was great to be able to use the nice showers, swim in the pool, and take our bikes around the northern part of the island.  We also met a bunch of other cruising families that were staying in the marina the same time as us which we had a great time hanging out with and will meet up with again later in the trip.

Since we were at the marina, it was really easy to take the bikes off the boat.  On our last day in the marina, Gene and I decided to take a bike ride around Rodney Bay area.

Beausejour Cricket Stadium
Cricket is the main sport in the Caribbean.  This stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia is where they host domestic cricket games for the Windward Islands cricket team.

Road to Pigeon Island.  Pigeon Island was a separate land mass.  This street was added to connect the mainland of St. Lucia to Pigeon Island.  There are a couple of resorts on the small stretch of land between the two islands, the Sandals resort is one of them.

This is the view from the top of the northern most mountain in St. Lucia looking south east (above Cas-en-bas).  There's a hiking trail that leads to this point from the Cas-en-bas bay.
