Departing
St. Kitts
Our
weather window to head to Antigua was quickly approaching. After
spending almost a full week in the marina, we said good bye to our
“neighbors” and the marina staff, and headed down to Frigate bay
where we anchored for the night to wait for our good weather window.
Frigate Bay is considered “the strip” in St. Kitts – a line of
beach bars along the coast of the bay. One of the bars, Mr. X's
Shiggidy Shack, does a beach bonfire on Thursday nights and has fire
eaters. We were able to watch all the festivities from the boat as
we anchored right off the shore. The next day we woke up and took
the dingy back to the marina so we could check out with Customs (we
almost forgot to do this!). Later that evening, we moved the boat to
Reggae beach where we anchored for the night, positioning ourselves
for a good heading towards Antigua. Saturday morning, we woke up
early and set sail towards Antigua. On the way to Antigua, we caught
two mahi – one of which escaped, but we did keep the other one.
Gene finally put his fish bag to use (a huge padded bag that you can
put a live fish in and zipper it up until the fish is dead and can
be filleted). We also saw 3 water spouts (tornado that forms over the ocean) during our crossing to Antigua.
