We
spent the morning snorkeling around our anchorage in English Harbour.
One of the top diving and snorkeling spots in Antigua is just
outside of the Harbour, so we swam out to the recommended spot.
There were unique rock formations at this site called the Hercules
Pillars. Tons of fish, corals, and turtles have made this site their
home, and we had a great time swimming around them. The visibility
was awesome! Our only regret was forgetting to bring the underwater
camera!
Later
in the afternoon, we walked into Falmouth Harbour for lunch. It's
about a 15 minute walk to Falmouth Harbour from the dingy dock in
Nelson's dockyard, English Harbour. While there are very few
historical buildings and sites in Falmouth, there are tons of marine
services and the marinas in Falmouth seemed to house even more
mega-yachts than Nelson's Dockyard. After lunch, we walked around
the docks, although most docks are impossible to get to unless you
are crew, captain, or owner of one of the yachts. So we decided to
take a dingy ride over to the harbour to check out the yachts in the
marinas. The ride over to and from Falmouth harbour in the dingy was
pretty rough with some pretty big swells we were dodging. But once
inside the harbour, we saw some amazing yachts. We saw the Maltese
Falcon, a 289-ft sailing vessel with one of a kind advanced rigging -
3 self-standing and rotating masts that hoist 15 sails. We also saw
a unique-looking adventure yacht called Garcon which carried a few
speed boats and a helicopter.
