January 5 - 9
Gene
negotiated a great deal with the manager of the Zante Marina, so we
decided to stay at the marina for the next 5 days while the bad
weather passed enabling us to complete a few more boat repairs and
projects. We immediately made friends with the crew and captain of
The Spirit of St. Kitts party tour catamaran where they keep the cat
docked. They hooked us up with a connection at the Carib brewery for
really cheap cases of beer, and had some great suggestions for
vendors who could help us with metal welding. We had a blast hanging
out with them each day.
For
the first few days, we worked on cleaning the boat and doing laundry.
Gene did the oil changes on the engines and some other boat
maintenance. We discovered the problem with the port engine – the
lever piece of the alternator which tightens the belts was cracked.
In order to get the engine working, we needed to either order a new
part or have the part welded so Gene could replace it on the
alternator.
